Tired of just going out to eat for date night? Shake things up with these 10 fun date ideas in Tucson!

Believe it or not, Tucson has a lot more to offer than just good food. As a wedding photographer, I’m constantly keeping an eye out for photoshoot locations and I’ve gotten great date ideas while I’ve been location scouting. I’ve curated this list so you don’t have to search all of Tucson to find these. For this list, I’m going to focus on fun. If you’re looking for something new, exciting, and adventurous, you’re going to love these date ideas in Tucson! Make sure to check out number one; it’s my favorite.

10. Stargaze and watch Laser Shows at the Flandrau Planetarium

Tucson is known for their beautiful stars and what’s a better way to enjoy it than at the Flandrau Planetarium? You get to lean back and watch a stunning show with surround sound and a Dolby 4k half dome screen. They’re constantly showing informational planetarium shows as well as music laser shows.  But my favorite thing? It’s indoors. This a great way to escape the heat, relax, and learn something new! I’d also like to mention that they have an observatory but, as of writing, is temporarily closed. I recommend checking if you’re wanting to see that. They also have science exhibits that range from astronomy to deep sea exploration. There’s really something here for everyone!

9. Hike Tumamoc Hill

Escape the hustle and bustle of Tucson with a hike up Tumamoc Hill! It’s a moderate, 3 mile round trip hike with absolutely stunning views. You’re able to see Tucson’s gorgeous cityscape, the surrounding mountains, and the desert flora on the hill itself. It’s a little steep at times but the view is worth it! Here’s a date tip: pack some food and have a picnic at the top. Food tastes better after a solid workout and a stunning view. It’s a great way to finish your date and make it memorable.

8. Battle it out at Golf N’ Stuff

Show your competitive side at Golf N’ Stuff! I love having matches with my husband and seeing who can get the least amount of points in mini golf, race on go karts, win more tickets at the arcade, and fight to the death at laser tag. Golf N’ Stuff has a nostalgic kitsch look that will make you feel like your kids again!

7. Skate at Skate Country

Skate Country is a great fun date idea! My favorite thing about Skate Country is that they always have fun events going on. I recommend skating on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 pm and enjoy their 18+ adult nights.

6. Cuddle up at a Tucson Ghost Tour

It may be hot here but this tour will give you the chills! The Tucson Ghost Tour by the US Ghost Adventures is a great excuse to cuddle up with your partner and keep each other close. Tucson is an old city, with lots of dark history with rogue cowboys and thieves. It’s a chilling tour that will show you all the local haunts and teach you about our early local history.

5. Explore the Colossal Cave Mountain Park

The Colossal Cave is jaw dropping! The rock formations are extremely beautiful with dramatic stalactites. A great perk about the caves is that it’s always cool down there! You can still explore the beauty of Tucson even in the hottest of months. When it’s a little cooler, I highly recommend checking out the entire park. It’s really beautiful and has lots trails for hiking, biking, and even horseback riding.

4. Enjoy a Show at the Gaslight Theater

The Gaslight Theater always has something fun playing! It’s a small theater that hosts live performances from parody plays to jazz concerts. Their plays often include the audience which adds another layer of fun!

3. Go Crazy at the Breaking Point

The Breaking Point has something for everyone. When you’ve both had a long annoying week at work, check out their rage room where you can smash every item in sight.  They offer date night packages at a discounted rate as well as a BYOB (bring your own breakables) package. If you’re up for a mystery, try their spooky escape room. They also have axe throwing where you can throw not just axes but throwing knives and ninja stars. Want to get in touch with your inner Jackson Pollock? Their splatter room is perfect for you! You can throw paint around on canvases, on others, and on the walls. There’s a reason why I put this one at number three. The Breaking Point is one of the best fun date ideas in Tucson.

2. Fly in a Hot Air Balloon with Tucson Balloon Rides

This merges romance and adventure beautifully! It’s one of my favorite date ideas in Tucson. Flying in a hot air balloon gives you a unique view of the Sonoran desert and mountains. Tucson Balloon Rides offers a special flight called Sonoran Sunrise. You get to watch the sunrise from a whole new perspective while sipping champagne and having a delicious breakfast. This is one of those type of dates that your partner would never forget!

1. Do a Couples Photoshoot at LaShay and Light Wedding Photography

A shameless plug! As a photographer, I make sure that my couples’ photoshoots are fun! The experience is just as important as the photos you get afterwards. You can have just the photoshoot as your date and I’ll give you poses and fun prompts to follow or you can incorporate the photoshoot into other activities you want to do. Imagine this: setting up a date (it can really be anything from picnics and fairs to going on a hike) and bringing a photographer along! If you want to go with this route, I recommend a mini session (15 or 30 minutes). That way you’ll get a good amount of photos but you can also have some time just the two of you alone.

It’s the perfect mix of fun, laughter, and romance. I genuinely believe that this is one of the best date ideas in Tucson! You get to dress up and be all cute with your partner! Not only that, you get gorgeous photos afterwards, genuine moments captured for a lifetime. I serve all of Tucson and the surrounding areas. And if you’re wanting to pop the question, I do surprise proposals as well. If you’re interested in a couples photoshoot, feel free to contact me! I’d love to help you make this the best date ever!
